Good child care providers:

  • Are warm and welcoming to parents and children
  • Have training and experience
  • Maintain a clean, safe and healthy environment
  • Have programs to ensure appropriate interaction and activities to promote the child’s physical, social and cognitive development at every age
  • Work together with parents to prepare children for formal schooling

Many states use a Quality Rating Improvement System (QRIS) to help parents and care providers assess the quality and effectiveness of programs. Virginia does not have such a system, but Governor Kaine’s Start Strong Council is planning for QRIS in the future.

The Preschool Partners Quality Assistance Program helps child care providers and and preschools on the Virginia Peninsula prepare for future statewide ratings. Our Resource & Referral System helps connect child care and preschool programs with families who need their services.
